Understanding Free Zones in Qatar

As a part of Qatar's economic development plans the country is currently developing three types of Free Zones in Qatar. The availability of natural resources, strong financial efficiency and a significant infrastructure positions Qatar as an attractive platform for local and international investments.

The Free Zone for Industrial Projects has been developed up by Manateq. Manateq promotes ease of doing business by offering world class infrastructure, advanced local and international connectivity and transport network, streamlined processes for business establishment and a 'one-stop-shop' for all establishment and operational needs.It also provides advanced customer service and support, facilitated access to equity and loan financing, and a lucrative duty-free zone offering for foreign investments.

Manateq is currently developing 3 SpecialEconomic Zones (SEZ) for the industrial and service sectors.

•      Ras Abu Fontas – Located next to Hamad International Airport
•      Um Al Houl – Located next to Hamad Port
•      Al Karaana

Apart from industrial parks, they are also developing logistics and warehouse parks:

•     Logistic parks: (Jery AlSamar - Al Wakra - Aba Saleel - Birkat Al Awamer)
•     Warehousing Parks: (BuFesseela – Bu Sulba – Umm Shaharain 1 – Umm Shaharain)

The Second Free Zone is Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) which is an onshore set up inDoha where entities can have 100% foreign ownership. It is popular with the international financial services industry. QFC has its own legal, tax and regulatory framework.

The Third Free Zone is the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), which allows100% ownership mainly for research institutions. Currently located close toQatar Foundation, QSTP is undergoing expansion.

Investors can enjoy a host of privileges while investing in Qatar’s free zones, including full ownership of companies, freedom of capital, entry and direct contact with the port and the airport, and the existence of a special system of employment and large facilities, in addition to the absence of fees in the property and no taxes on income, whether for persons or companies for a period of twenty years renewable.
