Qatar Economy


Qatar is rich in natural resources and has huge oil and gas reserves. Qatar has the third largest gas reserve in the world estimated at over 894 tcf. Qatar's GDP in 2011 accounted for QR 631 Billion (173 Billion US Dollars) with 58% being contributed by the oil and gas sector. Qatar has one of the highest per capital income in the world. In 2011, Qatar's GDP Per capita reached a record level of 97,727 US Dollars. 

In the Non - Oil sector, finance, real estate and insurance & manufacturing are the major contributors to the GDP. 

Business Hours
Government offices are open from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm daily from Sunday to Thursday. Banks are open from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm from Sunday to Thursday. Commercial offices normally open from 8:00 am to1:00 pm and from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Public Holidays
Friday is the Muslim day of rest and all offices are generally closed. The major holidays observed in Qatar are as follows: 

  • Eid Al Fitr 3 days holiday
  • Eid Al Adha 3 days holiday
  • Sports Day 2nd Tuesday of February
  • National Day 18th December
